For the women in the Abizeranye Association, weaving baskets, bowls, and earrings is more than just a job, it is an opportunity for a future many of them thought they would never have. This group of 17 women foresees a future where they no longer have to rely on husbands or family members to survive. They work hard to achieve their dreams of personal bank accounts, self reliance, farm animals, telephones, and schooling for their children.
Weaving together has already helped the group members to see improvements in their lives; each woman has been able to purchase health insurance, become an owner of small domestic animals, and provide food and clothing for their families. These hardworking and enthusiastic women have overcome major difficulties as a group, and continue to share and promote their vision of escaping poverty to better themselves.
