Inspirational Chat with The Shift Creative
If this is the first time you’ve seen some work from The Shift Creative, then you’re in for a treat. Whether you’ve been to the recent Yellow Conference or seen styling for Goop, you’ve probably seen something done by Alexis, founder and creative genius behind The Shift Creative. We loved chatting with her and immediately felt inspired to redesign a few dusty corners ourselves. Be inspired!
Tell us a little bit about yourself!
I am a wife, and a mother of two – Sophia, my 4 year old, and Sullivan, my 3 month old! I am an open textile addict! Give me all the rugs and pillows! I love working out, but can never say no to chocolate molten cake! I am a guilty Netflix binger (I mean who isn’t?). I love traveling to new places with my family. I love to be able to create custom installations that are truly unique and make a “wow” impact!
What gave you the inspiration to start The Shift Creative?
I originally went to school to become a counselor! I love talking to people, hearing their past, and relating to them! BUT, I got pregnant 3 months after I got married and I didn’t want to go back to school full-time. I always had a passion to create and was active in helping friend’s design weddings and bridal showers. A friend encouraged me to start a blog and honestly, I was skeptical. I had barely even read blogs prior to starting my own! Before I knew it my work was being published on major blog platforms and people started contacting me for work! The power of social media, I tell ya!
What kind of projects do you do?
My company specializes in creating custom art installations. I work with many companies to design their windows, conferences, events, and more! It is my favorite to revamp a space with my designs and draw attention to the brand or company. I also style products, which is a lot of fun! I get to think of creative ways to style the product with numerous props!
What are some of your favorite projects you’ve worked on?
This is year two of designing for The Yellow Conference, a creative conference held in LA. It is so much fun because the owner gives me a lot of freedom to create and I can really think outside of the box! I also loved working on installs for the Honest Company, Stone Fox Sweat, Nike, Gorgana, and styling for Goop, Swell Press Paper, 31 Bits, and more!
Where do you get inspiration for the work that you do?
I get a lot of inspiration from artists that work with a lot of textures like oversize knitters, weavers, macrame, etc. I am also super inspired by other installation artists that challenge me to think bigger! Aside from textures, colors really inspire me too. I always get excited when I work with a fun color palette.
Is there any new expansions of The Shift Creative in the near future?
I am hoping to get a big studio this year and add on a few employees! We shall see!
