The Banana Divided Serving Tray is crafted from the locally-gathered leaves and stalks of banana trees.  Artisans use a specially designed, handmade needle to thread dried banana leaves around the banana stalks.  The result is a super-sturdy tray that’s great for carrying cups.

And actually, this tray can be used to serve, store, and sort all kinds of things- feel free to be imaginative!  What about a funky little shelf, for example?  Or a fun storage place for craft supplies?  We like to use the tray to hold boxes of tea bags- it’s great for serving guests!

The serving trays are made by artisans from the Abaharaniriterambere People Fighting for Development Cooperative, who meet on their local school grounds.  We invite you to get to know them- see Immaculee peeking out over there to the left?

The Handcrafted Details

  • Made from hand-gathered local banana leaves and stalks.
  • On average, our six-section cup trays measure 12” x 8” x 4”.
  • Each compartment measures approximately 3.25” x 3.25”.
  • Care: Wipe with a damp cloth.  Our trays can get wet, but do not submerge.  Dry in the sun.
  • Note: Azizi Life goods are crafted from natural and locally-available raw materials.  As such, each product is unique and may vary slightly in size or shade of color.  Woven products exposed to sun or water may fade or become more malleable with time.
  • Ethically crafted by a person in rural Rwanda.

Banana leaves and stalks become beautiful and functional household goods through hand craftsmanship. Abaharaniriterambere means People Fighting for Development, and the weavers of this cooperative are determined to use their craft to lift their families out of poverty and contribute to their community. We use our time together not only to weave and exchange advice, but also to discuss important topics such as women’s rights.
