Beatrice: Creating a Better Future

Weaver Beatrice Mukantaganda has lived through personal tragedy and times of great need.  Despite her husband Vianey’s support of her weaving, she had little fair wage opportunity. Like so many in rural Rwanda, the family’s tiny farm could not sustain them. Two of their five kids finished only elementary school.

A big change came when Beatrice became one of Azizi Life’s first artisan partners.  Finally, she was receiving fair payment for her baskets.  With love, prayer and Bible study at Azizi Life, her cooperative of about 20 women grew stronger.  But with only a first grade education, Beatrice remained greatly limited.

At age 52, Beatrice enrolled in Azizi Life’s very first literacy class. Her efforts to create a better future have been transformational.

Now, Beatrice leads by example, encouraging others in literacy, nutrition, and savings groups.  As a hostess for Azizi Life Experiences, Beatrice welcomes foreigners into her new weaving space with pride, demonstrating the clean water filter and fuel-efficient stoves she bought through Azizi Life.

Beatrice is also creating a better future for her family.  They no longer live in a cramped, dirt-floor home.  The farm animals increase their income and nutrition.  Beatrice and Vianey’s children are studying hard, with hope of even going to university.

But where would the family be without this vision and opportunity? Beatrice shared that she would probably be hungry, selling products for a pittance (if she were even still weaving), and still shrouded in the thick fog of illiteracy.

This is the reality for thousands more people like Beatrice.  But you can help them create a better future.

Our Goal: Creating Better Futures

We aim to raise an additional $15,000 to help many more like Beatrice to create better futures!

Did you know:

  • $21 could provide one marginalized adult with full literacy tuition.
  • $48 could provide two families with 5 years of clean water.
  • $100 could provide 40 people with annual health insurance.
  • $735 could provide an entire class with full literacy tuition.

Monthly Gifts = Big Impact

  • $10 monthly (33 cents day) over a year could provide 5 adults with literacy tuition.
  • $20 monthly (66 cents/ day) over a year could provide 8 families with 5 years of clean water.
  • $25 monthly (83 cents/ day) over a year could provide 120 families with health insurance.
  • $50 monthly ($1.65/ day) over a year could provide 20 families with fuel-efficient stoves.
