Bedroom Essentials: How To Craft The Perfect Minimalist Bed

So, you’re ready to begin crafting that magazine-worthy minimalist bedroom of your dreams! You even have most of the elements to make it work but you’re not quite sure where to start.

Plus you might also be concerned that, to cultivate a minimalist-inspired modern bedroom feel, you’re going to have to spend a small fortune and that it could end up looking cold and threadbare.

Which is understandable given that cluttering a space is easily done, whereas reducing it down to the essentials while retaining its personality and warmth can be quite the challenge!

Minimalism at its core is about doing more with less, but in no way does this mean it’s particularly easy.

Which is why we wanted to share with you our top tips for creating your perfect minimalist bed. Rather than trying to tackle the entire room, start with your bed as the focal piece and work out from there.

Use this just as a guide, and be sure to sprinkle a little dose of your personal touches in there too!

3 Tips: Where Minimalism Meets Luxurious Comfort

Our perfect minimal bed follows a set of rules to achieve a look that softens minimalisms sometimes hard edges.

Our focus is to remove a lot of what’s unnecessary while retaining warmth, personality, and ultimately, comfort, that your bed, and bedroom, should have.

Rule 1: Crisp White Sheets

White sheets are always our go to, and trust us–white will never go out of style.

The best thing about white is the versatility to change it up whenever you’re bored with practically any color palette.

In this case, white is going to keep the bed feeling light, bright and open. There is an exception to the rule–although we hate to break it, if you can find a very soft color in just the right hue, you can give the traditional minimalist look a fresh approach.

Rule 2: Create Depth with White Pillows–But be Careful

Adding depth with pillows is something you can play around with.

It’s really easy to pull off a look of 2-4 back pillows so long as they’re arranged nicely. Meaning: you can use two shams and two standard pillowcases as we have featured below.

White pillows allow you to create depth, without adding color, allowing an item like a lumbar pillow to really pop and be the statement piece on your bed.

Rule 3: Subtly

Just because you’re taking a minimalist approach doesn’t mean you can’t add additional layers.

Adding a very soft color that compliments the color of your lumbar pillow is what will make you do a double-take each time you walk past your new cozy resting place.

Blending Aesthetics and Practicality

So you can see that crafting the perfect minimalist bed doesn’t mean paring down to a single mattress on the floor or a sterile black and white color scheme (although if that’s your style…go for it!)

We believe your bed (and bedroom) should be your sanctuary.

Minimalism is not just about following an impersonal, cookie-cutter blueprint. It’s about expressing yourself with less while keeping comfort and style at the forefront.

It’s a balancing act for sure, but with some careful thought and planning, you can choose just the right mixture of touches to create a calm, serene bedroom, free of clutter and distractions.

We’re so excited that, together with the artisan women in Southern Mexico, we’ve just added another three additional hand woven Lumbar Pillows (featured in this piece), to our best-selling collection. You can see them all here.
