Description

The Beacon of Light Story

The Beacon of Light Candlesticks were created through a collaboration between American designer Rebecca Hart of Becka Bella Style and the Azizi Life team and artisan partners. In this creative process, the woodcarvers of the Inganzo Cooperative invested more than 100 collective hours to bring the detailed design outlines to life. It was an honor to work with these seven craftsmen as they applied their skill and experience (together with plenty of good humor and lots of singing) to create the candlesticks. Designer Rebecca Hart chose the name Beacon of Light, sharing:

It’s about elevating our everyday life by creating and relishing in enjoyable moments that bring us comfort, peace, joy, and contentment – doing things that add a little sparkle to our ordinary days.

Sourcing and Making

Azizi Life wood carved products are crafted from local renewable resources.

Rwandan Musave trees, with their yellow trumpet flowers, provide the wood for the Beacon of Light Candlesticks. These fast-growing trees re-grow after they have been cut. We love seeing the new sprouts and knowing that more flowers… and more candlesticks… are on the way.

Artisans work with a local craftsman to shape the candlesticks, then carve in the beautiful curves and twist details. The dual-color finish is another part of what makes the Becka Bella Style collection unique. First, the artisans apply a mahogany color to the twists. They make it shine with a top layer of Kiwi shoe polish! The natural beauty of the wood is brought out on the body of the candlesticks using our all-natural beeswax polish from Beeutiful Creations.

  • Hand-carved from the Musave tree- a tree which regrows after it has been cut.
  • Polished with housemade beeswax polish from Beeutiful Creations and detailed with Kiwi shoe polish.
  • Please note that the shape and shade may vary slightly as they are all carved by hand from different cuts of wood.
  • The felted underside of the candlestick keeps scratches off your furniture.
